About Me
Laura Rutherford Renner is an artist whose paintings on wood depict contemporary life in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She follows the narrative with shade, shadow, and color. Her tools are her favorite five oil colors, scraps of poplar, and an easel. Laura has been painting on wood nearly her entire career, first from necessity, and now solely as a preference for a smooth painting surface. Everyday events and activities defined by shadow or reflections are the most intriguing to replicate on a well sanded board.
Her work has been recently exhibited in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Currently, she is a member of Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ and Viridian Artists in NYC.
Laura is a retired occupational therapist, and a survivor of brain surgery from 1996, after undergoing a traumatic childbirth and brain tumor diagnosis. Regaining all skills within a few months twenty-nine years ago has informed her drive to paint and produce works with gratitude, and to help others achieve independence as well.
